Veronique Cometti
Mother of two children, one in elementary school and one now in middle school, Veronique Cometti helped design and implement the monthly Character Education program at Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary School six years ago and has chaired the Committee for four years. A great fan of Step UP Theatre, she has invited the troupe to perform at Ellen Browning Scripps for three years in a row and is now helping promote their work in other elementary schools. Ms. Cometti strongly believes that Step UP Theatre has a strong impact on the lives of elementary school children.
Dan R. George
Originally from Moscow, Idaho, Dan holds a B.A. in Public Relations from the University of Idaho where he studied theatre and various subjects. He has been working for Chase Bank for a total of 14 years and is now a prominent member of Greater San Diego Business Association, working closely with others in our community.
Al Killen-Harvey
Al is a Clinical Supervisor at the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at San Diego's Rady Children's Hospital. He supervises a staff that works with children who have been physically, sexually and/or emotionally abused. A licensed clinical social worker, he has extensive experience in the area of child abuse and neglect. He is a past recipient of the San Diego County Child Abuse Coordination Council's "Unsung Hero" Award for his work with children who have been abused and/or neglected. Mr. Killen-Harvey is a frequent presenter, nationally and internationally, on a wide variety of topics related to children and adolescents. He has served on the board of CAPSAC (California Professional Society on the Abuse of Children) and is a consultant and trainer for UCLA's Rape Treatment Center. He recently returned from Bogota, Colombia where he presented at the first Latin American Child Abuse Conference. In 2004 he was invited by the government of Ecuador to assist in the development of their first nationwide child abuse legislation and in 2005 he visited American Samoa where he was asked by the Governor to assist in the development of the first Samoan Child Abuse Prevention Conference. His involvement with the San Diego Gay and Lesbian Community Center has included volunteering his services as a therapist, consultant, presenter and staff trainer for almost two decades. He sits on the advisory board for the Center's homeless youth housing project and was recently honored as "Outstanding Community Collaborator" for his work with the Center. A graduate of San Diego State University, Mr. Killen-Harvey brings a vast clinical and personal history of experience to his work in the area of child abuse education and sexual identity development.
Elliot Springer
Originally from Rockaway, New Jersey, Elliot graduated the University of Connecticut in 2002 with a degree from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. At UCONN, he created an individualized major in Technology and Society and became their first graduate in this unique program. In 2003, he relocated to San Diego and started a small web design and programming company called ChaseTheWeb.net, Inc. With his business partner, Elliot also developed an internet travel company called SaveOnResorts.com, LLC in January of 2004. Mr. Springer currently serves as Chief Operations Officer of SaveOnResorts.com, LLC and Chief Executive Officer of ChaseTheWeb.net, Inc. His companies employ approximately 40 employees and are based in the Sorrento Valley area. Elliot is engaged to a beautiful woman named Jenny and they reside in Carlsbad, California.
Marjorie Mae Treger
Marjorie was recently honored by the San Diego Educational Theatre Association with the Bravissimo Choice Award for Excellence in Theatre Education. She has been working in the San Diego theatre community for more than twenty years as an actress, director, choreographer, designer and theatre educator. An award winning actress, credits include roles at the San Diego Rep and Lawrence Welk Theatre, in addition to many others. Marjorie won a DramaLogue Award for Best Actress in 1987 and was nominated for ACT awards as Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2004 and Best Director in 2005 & 2006. She was Artistic Director for her own theatre company, Second Star Productions, for several years. Marjorie has directed over 70 productions; from Simon to Shakespeare to Sondheim. She helped found the theatre program at Scripps Ranch High School and has trained several theatre teachers working in San Diego County. Many of her former students are currently working in the entertainment and education industries. As Theatre Resource Teacher for San Diego Unified School District, she has developed trainings and curriculum for a variety of theatrical situations as well as pioneered the Honor Theatre Project for High School, a district wide event. Education includes a BA in Theatre from UC San Diego with minors in Anthropology and Literature, a Certificate in Acting from the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and a MA in Theatre Studies with an emphasis in Design and Technology at Southern Oregon University. She is a member of Actor's Equity Association, SDTEA, SDAN, EdTA, AATE, CETA and is included in the "Who's Who of American Women." Marjorie understands that the study theatre is the study of humanity and that the craft can provide insights into every human experience life has to offer.
Shawn Veen
Raised in Texas, Shawn moved to San Diego after serving over four years in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division and 2nd Infantry Division. He holds a B.A. in History from San Diego State University. In December of 2008 he completed the A.B.A. Paralegal Program at the University of San Diego. Upon graduation from SDSU he began working for the office of Assembly Member Lori Saldana as a Field Representative. He covers various issues including military, veterans, judiciary and legal, the environment and water quality for the office. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, playing soccer and hiking. A dedicated citizen of San Diego, he enjoys volunteering and giving his time to his local community.
